Experiences with reunification visa with unmarried (EU) partner?
I would be interested in hearing from anyone willing to share about the experience of getting a family reunification visa after living with their unmarried partner for a few years in Denmark.
A bit of background: my girlfriend and I have been together since we met in the US in 2017. She moved to Denmark in 2022 to get her MSc, since she could do so for free as a citizen of an EU country. After finishing my own degree in the US, I started a PhD in Denmark 2.5 years ago and we have been living together since then. I now want to apply for a reunification visa so we can continue to live together after my PhD without having to rely on a job for a visa. After being long distance once, we really don’t want to worry about that happening again.
In addition to the general experience of anyone who was in a similar situation, I’m curious what kinds of documentation are best to include. It seems like these applications can be tough and are decided case by case, which got us a bit worried. There is the list provided, but from reading around, it seems like including the documentation could also be a good idea if it strengthens the case?
Having lived together my whole time in Denmark, we of course have lease agreements showing we lived together, and have had our CPR numbers associated with the same addresses during that time. We also have 9 years of photos together, for what that counts, as well as plane tickets etc. from trips together and to visit each other before I moved to DK.
Unfortunately, we have had our finances separate until making a shared bank account this summer. We also don’t get much physical mail and don’t have any that comes to both of us. Might this be bad for the chances of acceptance?
Maybe I’m worried for no reason, but figured I should do my best to make sure we submit a good application, and any input is of course appreciated.
