Can you run away in this game?

Hi, I'm currently waiting for my newly PC to arrive and I'll definitelly buy this game by the end of this week, but after seeing some videos and reading some of the posts in this sub I've come to the title question: can you run away from certain encounters in this game? How easy is it to disengage from another player/group or avoid them completely?
I ask because I've been reading a lot about how some classes counter others, and since I'll be playing solo, I think that NOT FIGHTING someone you know will f you up is a very valid strategy.
I come from another extraction games (Tarkov and ABI mainly), and knowing when and how to engage other players is a must have skill, as well as having backup plans and escape routes planned if things don't go according to plan, but I honestly never read or saw anything related to this for this game, and it kinda seems like once you encounter other people, it's kill or die.
