Just decided to share my experience

🌎Cultural Perspectives

I came across this subreddit in my feed, and honestly, things are pretty straightforward here in Russia. You can tell if a tip is expected by the presence of a QR code or specific options on the restaurant's website. The standard amount is around 5–10%, but even then, nobody would look at you askance if you didn't leave one.

The reason is simple: in our country, cash is looked down upon apparently viewed as some sort of archaic relic to the point where even vegetable vendors at the market will try to get you to transfer money via phone number. And if you’re standing in a store line with cash, people will sigh passive-aggressively

So, the question of when it’s appropriate and when it isn’t simply doesn’t arise for us.

To address potential questions: we don’t have any tipping tablets at the counter, and staff are prohibited from accepting cash outside the register system
