did ancient punt fall to Habesha migration

History ⏳

D'mt is generally regarded as the first Habesha kingdom and the direct predecessor to Aksum, forming around 1000 BCE.

The last recorded voyage to Punt took place around 1100 BCE. Inscriptions from this period indicate that the people who founded D'mt were South Arabian migrants, arriving shortly before mixing with the local Cushitic-speaking population.

This same period is also thought to mark the point at which Saho, Afar, and Somali split off as distinct languages. Before Amharic, the highlands spoke Agaw; before Tigre/Tigrinya, they spoke Saho.

So the roughly 100-years maybe longer, the last voyage to Punt and the formal establishment of D'mt marks the core migration period from South Arabia bracketed by the fall of Punt on one end and the founding of D'mt on the other.

This is just a hypothesis, but the most certain part of it is that Semitic-speaking people were definitely not yet in the Horn during the era of the Punt voyages,

and that Afar, somali, saho, had not yet split off from one another as distinct languages before 1100 bce

The uncertain part of the hypothesis is whether Punt actually fell because of the migration or even a literal military takeover.
