Full coverage catsuit with front zip - attach a hood or replace a zip?
TL;DR is it easier to attach a hood to a front zip catsuit or replace a factory-fitted non-water-proof zip with a waterproof one?
I'm after a full coverage catsuit with a hood, which has a water proof back (to the extent that latex is ever water proof). I currently have a Libidex shoulder entry catsuit which has no zips below the shoulders which is great, but it does still allow sweat to escape from the neck e.g. when I'm asleep.
I found this REGULATION catsuit, which has all the other features I'm after (toe socks, molded elements, etc.) but when selecting an attached hood the only zip options are on the back (cross shoulder or back zip); so it still wouldn't be sweat-proof when laid down. I have reached out to REGULATION and they've advised that they wouldn't be able to make either of the following suggested modifications "for a variety of reasons" 😢
The options I'm now considering are:
- Order the REGULATION catsuit with a front zip and no hood and then attach a loose fitting hood with front zip; I'm envisaging a 2-3 panel hoodie style hood like this, with the hood glued around the back of the neck to create a waterproof seal, and the hood zip would zip downwards meeting the main zip under the chin just like this
- Order the REGULATION catsuit with a cross shoulder back zip and attached hood and replace the zip with a waterproof dry suit type zipper; my worry with this would be removing the factory fitted zipper cleanly and finding a replacement zipper that's latex compatible and the right length
- Contact a custom maker to ask them to make either of the above modifications; my reservation with this approach is that many makers are genuine artists and I wouldn't blame them at all for not wanting to simply modify a branded suit rather than actually make something of their own design, but maybe I'm overthinking it
- Order a fully custom suit and accept that it might not have all the features available with the REGULATION suit (toe socks, molded elements, etc.)
- Layer the REGULATION catsuit with something like this top with an attached hood; but this obviously wouldn't be genuinely sweat-proof so I suspect that sweat might still be an issue in the case
Any thoughts on those options would be greatly appreciated, especially from those with experience making with latex! The closest experience I have is with basic sewing repairs which I'm aware isn't necessarily the same skill set 😅
