Spider-man BND villain question

Spoiler'Spider-Man BND*' Spoilers

So it’s probably no surprise to anyone who knows the X-men that the universal inhibitor chip is probably going to come back. I’ve been skulking around and from what I understand, the universal inhibitor chip is able to suppress all forms of mutation, hence, working on mutants but also spider-man and the hulk.

That makes sense to me but it made question something, how did Spider-man know it would work on Jean? Unless I missed something, I don’t think he knows how Jean’s power work. I have been really behind on my MCU world (haven’t seen like, any of the TV and most of the recent movies) but as far as I’m aware, mutants aren’t exactly common place or at least not widely known for him to think her powers was due to being a mutant. If I was spider-man, I would assume magic since he has more experience with magic than mutants. Does that mean the universal inhibitor chip works on magic as well, like, it would prevent Dr. Strange from using magic because that doesn’t make sense to me, or did Spider-man just got really lucky that his chip worked on Jean.
