[actives] Slow colonisation from P. Natalensis

Actives

Hey Folks,

I'm trying to grow p. Natalensis for the first time. I'm using the same approach as with cubes. Started with MSS to agar, did like 4 transfers and had a couple of nice clean looking but super tomentose plates and put them to oat spawn in jars...

It's been 10 days and apart from one jar which has a bit of green in, they look like they're healthy, just sooo slooooow. I had less than an inch or so myc coverage after 3 days then gave the jars a shake just to spread it out a bit (I would normally shake early with cubes too). They've recovered but I'm still only getting like an inch of white at best.

The jars are in ambient room temp in UK but I've moved them to an insulated bag to reduce temp fluctuations and they're at about 24c (75f). Any ideas?

I expected nats to be more aggressive than cubes but have recently learnt that the fast colonising species people have been reporting were like p ochraceocentrata, not nats. I purchased the spores from Orangutan Trading UK, who are a reliable vendor and specifically acknowledge the confusion in taxonomy in the listing, and seem to confirm the spores are indeed legit p. nats, which are supposedly a lot slower. Could this explain what's going on?
