I honestly think Asians are shooting themselves in the foot when talking about representation in Hollywood because they complain but then not bring any meaningful changes.

Discussion

I think rather than rely on white people to create stories of Asian people which most likely are gonna involve brief stereotypes, they should start their own studios and become writers, directors and producers themselves to set up shop. Instead, what happens is parents, especially immigrant ones, shut all of those dreams down and make them constantly study, math tutoring and getting "safe" jobs like doctor, lawyer, engineer, accountant etc. Hence, further affirming the stereotypes that Asians are math geeks.

This is a really big struggle that a lot of people from an Asian background, especially me go through. I had some dreams of being an actor and recently, the thought resurfaced in my head. But because I'm born not of the right race, it feels like it can only be a dream. At the very least, you see other minorities like black people, latinos and even samoans play major roles in big franchises. But it's mainly Asians that have the most trouble in this area and I think it's not entirely correct to externalize the blame instead of looking inwards and changing the internal deadweights that killed such prospects from the beginning.
