Hey everyone,
Over the past few weeks I’ve been working on what is probably the most personal documentary I’ve ever made.
My grandparents on my mom’s side are from Ribeira Grande on Santo Antão, and growing up I always heard stories about the island.
That question ended up turning into a personal goal to visit every island in Cabo Verde.
This documentary follows my time on Santo Antão, but it’s really about much more than hiking and scenery. I wanted to explore how an island only 18 km from São Vicente could develop into such a different place, how geography shaped its history, and what it was like finally visiting the town my family has called home for generations.
One of the most meaningful moments was meeting my grandmother’s cousin and seeing old family photographs—including a picture of my great-great-grandfather that I’d only ever seen before in family albums.
I’ve spent a lot of time trying to make this feel more like a documentary than a travel vlog, and I’d genuinely love feedback before I consider it finished.
Does the story keep you engaged?
Is there anything about Santo Antão or Cabo Verde that you think more people should know?
