Apple watch users: Do you need to raise your hand before checking time?

Problem/Goal: I got curious if necessary ba for Apple watch users (or any smartwatch brand) to raise their hand abruptly before checking your watch?

Context: I was inside the cinema when mid-film this guy who was sitting in front of me suddenly raised his hand only to check his watch. Para siyang mabilis na pitik sa hangin pataas then binaba niya agad to look at his watch. Tbh I found it odd and lowkey annoying kasi I got interrupted from what I was watching, and I did not think that was necessary.

Few minutes into the film napansin ko he checked his watch again but this time without the big gesture. I got curious kasi I’ve never used a smartwatch before, I have friends who do but I never saw them do the same movement naman. Needed ba talaga minsan to shake it that way before looking at it? For what purpose? I’m also thinking of getting one in the future kasi, but if that was part of the feature then siguro ‘wag nalang haha
