Nuka world settlement stuff

So, im playing a playthrough in the first person like doing my own actions and how I would exactly play it out in the game. For nuka world, I want the raider decorations, like the blood trough for Strongs home or the brahmin couch got my own personal home. Is there a way to do it and be general of the minutemen, and NOT lose Preston as a companion?
