Me and the lads went punting last Saturday

I met the boys early on Saturday, we are aged 53-64 so we know what’s what when it comes to being on the water

anyway we hired a punt and went up the river, it was only about 9am but one of the lads cracked the beers open so there was me, standing on the back of the punt with a tin of Perla in one hand and the punting pole in the other.

we made good progress, I overtook a punt chock full of yank tourists, I made sure I passed close and gave them a little soaking

we stopped for a bit so we could eat bacon rolls which Jon had packed up, he’d been generous so we slung the crumbs to the ducks and continued on.

we came upon a boat full of women, I did a dance on the back of the boat, the other lads were shouting and laughing, the women were grinning, it was great.

after an hour id had enough and handed the pole over to Brian, he didn’t know what he was doing and ended up going arse over tit into the river, we all cracked up and hauled him back in.

by this time the punt was near enough full of empty beer tins, there was 6 of us lads and we’d got a thirst on.

eventually we came upon a pub what was open so we abandoned the boat and sat outside the pub drinking

after a few pints we got back into the boat and headed back into town, parked up where we’d hired it from and got out

rhe owner was moaning about the state of the punt, Brian said to him it’ll only take you a minute to tidy up, it’s only a few tins

we then headed back and sat outside the rat and parrot, most of us had a fair few pints there and had a nice nap on the riverbank.

i recommend it to anyone, its a good day out and nice when the weather is kind.
