Algo trading with tradetron - my experience
Started algo trading with tradetron since past week. It is a totally new experience for me as i was struggling with discipline and emotions. I trade using margins and sell 10-20 lots but whenever there was any loss, i freezed and it wiped out the profits, hence i decided to go with rule based trading. For time being to get the feel of algo started with tradetron but would soon develop my own strategy (option selling with decent return and capital preservation for high capital) in tradetron
Faced some minor technical difficulties like broker connection and solving the static Ip issues , but moment the algo worked i was like a kid fascinated with a toy, and was like i dont even have to monitor the market every min, the system will do it all for me. I anyways was positional discretionary trader and like to take slow theta eating trades. I subscribed to only one paid strategy the Patni Capital nifty selling with hedge V1. Total other monthly costs are Tradetron subscription 300 (Basic plan - 1 strategy deployment ) Static IP 100 , + taxes extra , the zerodha personal api (free one ) works well so no need to get kite connect API. Initial tradetron thoughts are its a breeze for a non techie like me to do algo trading. But their backtesting is costly and they dont give paper trading free , but deduct it from deployment quota which is wrong, i did write emails to them but it was no use. Till now from the paid strategy i have made around 11K in 1 week.
Patni Strategy Review - Nifty directional option selling with hedge V1 - most no of deployments on tradetron at 500 per lot / multiplier per month.
I subscribed to the Patni strategy for one month, in hopes to learn more and try to reverse engineer it . However, my experience with customer support has been disappointing.
- Poor technical support: I called Patni Capital to understand expiry-day margin requirements for the overnight hedged position. The representative simply said it was "mentioned in the strategy" and couldn't explain the margin logic, which suggested a lack of understanding of the strategy. Ideally on 3 Aug it should have exited all positions of 4 Aug expiry to avoid high margin and on 4 Morn take fresh positions for 11 Aug expiry, however the person who spoke with me didnt understand the logic and was saying same thing.
- Incorrect information: On the morning of 4 August, I specifically asked whether the strategy would trade the same-day expiry (4 Aug) or the next week's expiry (11 Aug). I was told morning trades would use 4 Aug and afternoon trades would use 11 Aug. However, the strategy actually traded 11 Aug expiry in the morning itself, showing that the support team was not aware of how their own strategy works.
- Poor email support: I sent an email to the official support address 5 days ago and have still not received any response. When I followed up over the phone, I was told that "no one checks that email ID." If that's the case, it shouldn't be listed as an official support channel on the strategy page.
Overall, my concern is not the strategy itself but the lack of knowledgeable and responsive customer support. I'll complete my one-month evaluation, but based on this experience, I'm unlikely to renew unless the support quality improves significantly.
