Am I being micromanaged?
I recently got promoted from a country specific role to a global role. In my country lead role, i was great. Ran the whole program with minimum resources, established partnerships, and was meeting all my kpis. Then I had to move countries. I continued working for the same org for a very low salary as I was waiting for my contract to be turned to a global role, and meanwhile I received offers from interviews i applied to, that i used to negotiate my salary but stayed in this org.
A new role was created for me for one of our flagship multi-country initiatives that I was hired for. Shortly after I was hired, the initiative started receiving lots of funder and partners interest and in just 2 months has become the most important thing at work. I was previously working on it informally while waiting on my contract change, and no one even knew what this program was.
Suddenly all of the leadership is interested in it. My ceo has personally taken interest in it, and has appointed one of the senior colleagues to “support” me. Now my work, in my absence, gets discussed in their imp meetings, i get feedback from my ceo on how i communicate or on my deliverables regularly, and this senior colleague messages me everyday to check on my progress on certain things.
The problem is I already have a manager. And I have been fairly great at my previous role. I do know that the work has suddenly become high-stakes, and everyone wants to be involved, but I hate people leaving me unsolicited feedback on documents I am still working on, checking on me repeatedly on how xyz is going, and scheduling 2 meetings a week.
I am so confused. I haven’t gotten “bad” feedback per se but so many people (approx 4 at this point) managing me is upsetting me and making me wonder whether I am doing something wrong? How can I slowly get them to get off my back?
My manager has mentioned it to the ceo but he has ignored it quite a few times.
