Can you use 14 oz linen for men's trousers?
Hello,
Going off of these assumptions:
- Heavier fabrics drape better and wrinkle less.
- Twill-Woven fabrics are stronger and wrinkle less
- Looser weaves and Linen fibre make for more breathable clothes.
I theorized that a pair of semi-formal, hard-wearing men's trousers could be made of a heavy twill/herringbone linen to optimize drape without restricting breathability too much. Some examples I'm considering:
370 g/13.1 oz Houndstooth, "Gun club"
420 g/14.8 oz Plain weave, Brown
I know that vintage suitings ranged in fabric weights between 14 and 18 oz (~400 - ~500 g), so the weight doesn't seem outlandish, though of course wool is a different beast.
I don't have much experience using fabrics of this weight so I wanted to ask if there is something wrong with my thought process and if there are any challenges with making pants that heavy which i am unaware of.
