Best UCSD courses to take for a SWE career in Fall 2026?

I’m going into my final quarter at UCSD in Fall 2026, and I’m looking for course recommendations that would be genuinely useful for preparing for a software engineering role.

Assuming I have the prerequisites and can take almost any upper-division CSE course, which classes would you recommend? I’m also open to useful courses outside of CSE if they teach practical skills related to backend development, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, databases, security, networking, or software design.

Since this will probably be my last quarter, I’d like to prioritize courses that will actually help me become a better software engineer rather than taking something just to fulfill a requirement.

Which courses helped you the most in internships, interviews, or your full-time SWE job?
