best way to automate covered calls on long term holds
I hold a handful of names I have no intention of selling and I write calls against them for a bit of yield, and the position management is honestly the part that eats up the benefit. The equity thesis is the easy bit, I know why I own these. It's the every-Friday grind of picking a strike, deciding whether to roll when it goes against me, and remembering to do it across several tickers that turns a simple side income thing into a chore I half forget half the time. So I'm trying to work out the cleanest way to automate covered calls on a long hold without turning my brokerage into a science project. Not looking to change the underlying thesis or get cute with the strikes, just to stop the operational side from being the reason I skip weeks or write at bad levels because I rushed it Friday afternoon. Going to try setting hard rules for strike selection and rolls and running them automatically for a month to see if it changes the consistency, even if the returns end up about the same.
