Breastfeeding is natural, but why does nobody talk about how hard it can be?
Everywhere we hear "breastfeeding is natural" and "breast is best".
And yes, there are many benefits, but during Breastfeeding Week, I feel like it is also important to talk about the parts that are not always discussed.
Things like:
• struggling with latching
• feeling unsure if the baby is getting enough milk
• dealing with pain during the first few weeks
• feeling guilty when things don't go as planned
A friend recently told me she felt like she was failing because breastfeeding didn't come easily to her.
It made me wonder why new mothers are often prepared for the importance of breastfeeding, but not always for the challenges that can come with it.
Do you think mothers get enough realistic information and support around breastfeeding, or do we mostly hear only one side of the story?
