I don’t want to break up with my boyfriend but I also can’t continue like this
So me and my boyfriend have been together for a long time now, and for some context we do live together. I truly believe he’s my person and I want to spend my life with him but I also think it’s becoming a lost cause. He does not communicate at all, he will say things or do thing that upset me and his way of dealing with anything is just to ignore it for a while and shut down (in the scenario of me and him falling out over something this will be him ignoring me for a day or two and not wanting to talk about it at all) and then after this he just flips the switch and goes back to normal, pretending like it didn’t even happen. Unfortunately for him this is not the way my brain works, I know that this upsets me (especially when he can say some really hurtful things or pick at my insecurities) and I need to talk about it in order to move on. It feels like because this has been happening for years it’s just piling up on me and I feel exhausted. He’s seen me get so upset and yet this pisses him off more and I think he sees this as a personal attack on him. I don’t cry on purpose, and god knows my life would be easier if I wasn’t so sensitive, but it’s not wrong of me to be so upset when the person I love is knowingly hurting me and appears to not give a shit?
I have tried talking to him, I just don’t think he believes at all that this is actually hurting me and probably just thinking I’m being ‘dramatic’. I don’t remember the last time he’s comforted me when I’ve been crying or upset, more time that I’m crying he actually laughs at me and/or continues to say things that he knows is going to make me more upset. Multiple times he has even managed to fall asleep whilst I’m crying trying to speak to him about our failing relationship, which to me just seems like he finds comfort in me being hurt? I honestly don’t know anymore
So anyway, I guess I just want to know if I’m being an idiot even trying to fix something that’s too far broken, or if I’m giving up too easy?
