Warning: My experience with Haringey Law Centre during an active eviction / possession order case
I wanted to share my experience with Haringey Law Centre because people dealing with urgent housing, homelessness, or eviction matters should be aware of what can happen.
I contacted them for help with a serious housing matter involving a possession order and court costs. I sent the documents they requested, signed their legal help paperwork, attended the appointment process, and repeatedly followed up by email and phone.
Despite this, the communication has been extremely poor. I have sent multiple emails asking for advice on what steps I can take, especially regarding the court costs that I cannot afford, but I have not received clear guidance or proper follow-up.
This is not a small administrative issue. When someone is facing eviction, homelessness, or court action, silence from an advice organisation can make the situation much worse. Deadlines matter. Court orders matter. People need timely advice, not weeks of chasing.
In my experience, Haringey Law Centre has been unreliable, unresponsive, and deeply disappointing. They may be underfunded or overloaded, but if they cannot assist properly, they should clearly say so rather than leaving people waiting during a critical legal situation.
My advice to anyone dealing with an urgent housing matter is: do not rely on them alone. Contact other organisations at the same time, keep written records of everything, send documents by email and post where needed, and do not assume that help is coming just because they have asked you for documents or booked an appointment.
