Am I the ahole for telling my bestfriend that she couldn’t be my bridesmaid because of her style?
I 26 female got engaged to my boyfriend of 7 years and I asked my bestfriend to be one of my bridesmaids and she agreed. I was going with a pastel themed wedding and I wanted all my bridesmaids to wear a pink dress with basic makeup look.Everyone was happy with that except my bestfriend, for context she likes to dress in dark colours and pretty dramatic makeup.
Later on that night she texted me asking if she could wear a black dress instead of pink, I replied saying no because I was going for a pastel theme and I wanted my bridesmaids to wear matching coloured dresses. I then offered if she didn’t like the idea of wearing a pink dress then she could just go as a guest instead of a bridesmaid and wear whatever she liked to which we she refused as. After awhile of talking she finally decided to just wear the basic makeup and the pink dress.
A couple of months later it was the day of the wedding and my bestfriend texted me saying that she was going to get ready in her apartment which was fine with me and I just told her to meet at my home when she was ready. So a couple of hours past and the doorbell rang and one of my bridesmaids went to open the door. Then she came up to me, she whispered in my ear to go to the hallway. I was confused but I went anyways. There in the hallway was my bestfriend in this long black lace dress, along with that she had thick black eyeliner with white facepaint and a dark lip combo. She was beautiful, but it was the exact opposite of what I wanted.
I confronted her and we argued for a couple of minutes, I then told her that she can either be a guest at my wedding or not attend at all. Then she slammed the door and walked out. I didn’t see her at my wedding that day.
Was I to harsh?
