The perfect opportunity

This week kid has a day activity, while my wife and I take the last chance to WFH before the back-to-office mandate comes into effect. We'll go back on vacation for one last week next week.

I usually wake up first to make coffee, then my wife gets up and we go outside for her morning cigarette. Today though, we were running a bit late. I tried to convince her to go out and smoke by herself while I got kid ready for their activity, but she didn't want to. Said there was too much to prepare still. She did seem a bit short-tempered, but that could just be because kid dragged their feet getting ready. Shortly after, I took kid to their activity while she stayed home.

As we left, I considered whether I should tell her to go out and smoke. She certainly would have, if I suggested it directly. I decided against it to see if she would do it anyway.

She had the house to herself for about two hours before I got back. She hadn't smoked in about ten hours. She hadn't had her morning coffee yet, and she usually smokes while having it. The weather is nice. Our neighbors are away. Simply put, a more perfect opportunity for her to decide to have a cigarette by herself will never exist.

!Sigh. This woman. She is apparently just completely immune to nicotine addiction. I asked her if she really didn't crave one after we left, and she said that she didn't. She would rather wait for me before having one.!<

!We also broached the topic of how she will handle smoking when we go back to work. She is not planning to smoke at work, nor on her commute. There is no need to, since she won't crave cigarettes.!<

!I'm feeling a bit frustrated. She is never going to smoke a cigarette without my say so. I don't know how long I will have the patience to keep pushing.!<
