Context: Malaysia, like Singapore and India until a few years ago, had a old British Indian law that criminalised not being gay as much as "carnal intercourse against the order of nature" is taken as anything anal or oral sex write large, but specifically against two men. Singapore's high court even had to rule decades before the gay part was struck down that blowjobs and assplays allowed as long as someone comes (read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section\_377A\_(Singapore)) In Malaysia, this has particular saliance because the current prime minister was the leader of the movement that defected from the dominant ruling party that led to the old dominant ruling party losing an election in 2019 was jailed for years on trumped up charges of 'Sodomy'. There si a lot of politics that is very complicated, but Malaysia is split three ways between a reformist party that wants racial preferences in all aspects of life and law but not so much, a party whose ideology is literally 'Malay Supremacy', and a flat out Islamist party. The latter two have made a tacit alliance, but are trying to convince the same set of Malay + Muslim voters why race or religion supremacy is better and the current PM is a homo.

r/Malaysia is the *liberal* sub.

But why are we so quick to blame his actions for simply portraying how life as a queer Malaysian is? Malaysia is objectively a homophobic country with homophobic institutions that refuses to recognize the existence of queer people and want them gone, but somehow we're also mad that they're building a case to leave just as told?

Damned if they do, damned if they don't. Make it make sense.

Utilizing the religious snowflakes to get a better life. Kinda respect the hustle.

He is a Malaysian but he sure ain’t Muslim. He did not claim to be one too. Religion is forced unto him just because he is a Malay. Race and religion are two different things. Did religion stop corruption? Did religion stop fitnah by elderly adult. So good for him for looking for love and future in a country that accept him. It is his choice.

Actually religion is used to commit those corruptions and fitnah most of the time

No religion teaches humans to committing sins. It is human themselves that does all these.

Yeah it’s the the fault of the religion, but the fault of those who abuse it. But what about the followers who know this is wrong?
