Can I get a refund thru Airbnb? (LA area - ROACHES)

Hi everyone,
I’m temporarily staying in an Airbnb until my new lease begins on August 20th. I booked a 31-day stay because it was the cheapest monthly rate.
It’s a co-living Airbnb, where each guest has their own private bedroom and bathroom, but everyone shares the kitchen. Each person has designated, labeled storage areas in the refrigerator and pantry.
The first night after moving in, I discovered a significant German cockroach infestation in the kitchen and stairwell. I reported it to the host the very next day and have now contacted them three separate times through the Airbnb app. Each time they’ve said they’ll address it “as soon as possible,” but nothing has actually been done, and the infestation is still ongoing.
On top of that, someone staying at the property has repeatedly taken food from my designated storage area in the shared kitchen without my permission. As a full-time college student working full-time, I’m on a tight budget and rely on the groceries I buy. Between the infestation and having my belongings taken, I no longer feel comfortable or secure staying here.
I’ve already opened a case with Airbnb because I believe the property is unsafe and unsanitary. Since I reported the infestation immediately after moving in and it has never been resolved, I’m hoping Airbnb will allow me to cancel and issue a refund.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Were you able to get a refund for a long-term stay?
