Why isn't Delta doing anything to prevent luggage theft at ATL?

Discussion

In most countries, luggage belts are either in a secure area or there is a staff member present checking tags after passengers claim bags. In Atlanta (and almost all of the United States), however, luggage belts are totally accessible to the public. Anyone can walk off a MARTA train, go "shopping" for luggage, and take a bag. Nobody will stop them.

Why does Delta have so little respect for its passengers (who are often forced to gate check bags by aggressive gate agents) that it won't even attempt to prevent luggage theft? They have plenty of money to park a private security guard or employee at every luggage belt, but simply choose not to do so, and instead leave passengers vulnerable to luggage theft that regularly happens.

It's outrageous. And more passengers should be mad at both Delta and the Atlanta Airport for allowing this to happen.
