CMV: Any obsession over celebrities- be it their love lives, health, wealth or mental health status, is unhealthy and parasocial.

Americans seem to have an intense parasocial relationship with celebrities (I believe it's global but I am not informed enough of international fandoms to push this that far).

They seem to believe that celebrities owe the public aspects of their lives simply because they "chose to be famous" even when many of them were pushed to fame as children, long before they could have given consent.

When you look at how the world is currently adjudicating Ariana Grande's clear illness, or how it treated Britney, Amy Winehouse, Ke$ha, and others (even the recent Perez Hilton horror) - the American public seems to have a disturbingly unhealthy relationship with celebrity and celebrity culture that leads to significant unhealthy social behaviors, including both worship and destruction of those being put on the pedestal of fame.

Any time you're in a one way relationship with a celebrity is unhealthy and parasocial. CMV!
