Hello, Reddit! My name is Kim Barnes and I’m what you’d call a Reconnect Navigator. Basically, that means I help new and returning college students navigate the process of getting an associate degree or skills certificate, tuition-free. Pretty catchy, right?

But, before I was a Navigator, I was a student first … and my journey was far from traditional. As a first-gen college student, I worked full time, raised a family and cared for aging family members all while simultaneously pursuing my degree. Now, I’ve made it my mission in life (or, at least my career) to help others navigate similar situations as they pursue their degree.
