Introducing OpenVerb: An Open Standard for AI Actions and Portable AI Workflows

I’ve been working on a project called OpenVerb that aims to standardize how AI interacts with software.
Today, every AI integration is different. Every application exposes its own APIs, tools, SDKs, or function-calling interfaces, forcing developers to build custom integrations repeatedly.
OpenVerb proposes a common execution layer built around standardized verbs (actions).
Instead of asking:
How do I call this application’s API?
An AI asks:
Which verb should I execute?
Applications expose Verb Libraries describing their capabilities, and AI generates portable workflows using those verbs.
One recent addition is the .ov file format.
Think of it as a portable workflow format for AI.
Instead of losing work inside a chat conversation, AI can generate a .ov workflow that can be version-controlled, shared, inspected, and executed later.
There’s also an OpenVerb Viewer, which lets you inspect and validate workflows before executing them.
Some things I’m exploring:
Standardized action schemas
Portable AI workflows
Runtime execution
Verb registries
Policy enforcement
Workflow validation
Cross-application interoperability

I’d love feedback from anyone building AI agents, MCP servers, automation tools, or developer platforms.
