SPQRK Today - Dump notes, plan tasks - Free w IAP
App Name: SPQRK Today
What it does: One app for your notes and your to-do list. Without a day on it an item is a note; give it one and the same item becomes a task on that day, with nothing to convert or re-enter.
Key Features:
- Durations add up into a total for the day, so you see yourself overloading tomorrow while there's still time to put something back.
- Typing to add is also typing to search. The add field filters your existing notes as you type, so a duplicate shows up before you make it.
- No account, no sync, no ads, no analytics. Works fully offline. The three permissions it lists all come from Google's billing library and nothing else uses them.

Why?
God damn it, why another to-do app?
To be honest, I can't even count the number of to-do apps I have used in my life. None of them worked for me in the long run. My main problem is that you always had to use two apps to get sufficient results:
- One for notes (used to be Google Keep for me)
- One for tasks (Todoist until recently)
So my thinking was: how could I build one app where I can dump my ideas during the day, but still structure them into a to-do list? No micromanaging, no hassle, no exact planning at the moment the idea comes and I am hands down in other work.
Recommended workflow
Thus SPQRK Today was born. These are my recommended steps how to use the app:
Notes: Whenever an idea or possible task comes to mind, open the app, open the add screen, type your idea, maybe label it, and save it. Do not plan it, don't add a date. Don't be too detailed. Done in seconds.
Tasks: Then at the evening or in the early morning, sit down, take five to ten minutes, scroll through your notes, and make them tasks one by one, simply by adding a date and duration.
I have used my knowledge of psychology to aid the steps. Here are some things I implemented to nudge you to complete your tasks:
Durations show a sum of the day. You'll just have to find your daily maximum time. And you'll automatically get the hint when you might overwhelm yourself with tasks.
When you finish a task, the app prompts you to plan the next one. For example, I'm a beekeeper. Whenever I check my bees, I know I will have to do some afterwork in the next few days or weeks. So I'll plan them in advance, or at least make a note.
Notes are hard to remember, so adding a new note automatically filters the existing ones, and you'll have possible duplicates at a single glance.
What it costs
Everything is unlimited for the first 14 days. After that it keeps working for free, and the free tier holds three labels. Unlimited labels, scheduling to any date you like, and image attachments are Pro: 9.99 EUR / 9.49 USD once, not a subscription.
Nothing you already made is taken away when the trial ends. The limits only apply when you create something new.
Android 8.0 and later, in English and German.
Expectations
I honestly don't expect much from this side project. I made it for myself. Times are great for this kind of thing. It was a few weeks of work. I have 20 years experience as a software developer, and it is great how I can build a to-do app for my personal preferences nowadays. I don't expect a huge success. But I still like to show it off, as it might aid one or two of you, and you might find it useful. For now, Android only. If there are some signs of demand, I'll probably build an iOS app too.
