Title: Tarsal coalition, 7 months on profile, provider says Chapter 5-14 instead of MEB. What are my options?
I'm looking for advice from anyone who's been through something similar.
I'm an active duty Soldier and a 92G (cook). I have a tarsal coalition in my left foot, and because of my MOS I'm on my feet for hours every day. The constant standing, walking, lifting, and working in the kitchen has made my foot significantly worse.
I've been on a temporary profile for about 7 months, and despite physical therapy and treatment, I'm still in pain and struggling to do my job. My provider recently told me that I'm eligible for a Chapter 5-14, but not a Medical Evaluation Board (MEB). Honestly, I'd rather go through the MEB process if I actually don't meet retention standards.
I'm confused because:
I've been on profile for 7 months.
My condition isn't improving.
My MOS makes the pain worse every day.
I have ongoing duty limitations because of my foot.
I don't know if I should ask for a second opinion, request a permanent profile, talk to a patient advocate, or if there's another process I should be looking into. I feel like I'm just being pushed toward an administrative chapter instead of having my case properly evaluated.
Has anyone here had tarsal coalition, chronic foot issues, or been told they were getting a Chapter 5-14 instead of an MEB? What did you do? Were you able to get referred for an MEB, or is there something I'm missing?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm just trying to understand my options and make sure I'm not overlooking something.
