What's One Piece of Career Advice That Doesn't Work Anymore?
I've noticed that a lot of career advice from 5–10 years ago doesn't seem to be as effective today.
For example:
- "Just apply to as many jobs as possible."
- "A degree is enough to get your foot in the door."
- "Recruiters will find you if you're qualified."
- "One resume works for every application."
The job market has changed significantly, especially over the last few years.
Competition is higher, hiring processes are longer, and candidates often need to be much more intentional about how they search for jobs.
I'm curious:
What's one piece of career advice you think is outdated in today's job market?
Or, on the flip side, what's one strategy that has actually worked well for you recently?
I'd love to hear different perspectives and real experiences.
