Ring Alarm Outdoor Siren Z-Wave

Has anyone managed to use the Ring alarm outdoor siren without the Ring base station? What can you actually control without it? Are you happy with the siren, or would you recommend something else?

I'm thinking about getting one, but I don't want to use the Ring ecosystem. I really like the fact that it's flashy and has the LED on all night. To me, that's one of the main jobs of an outdoor siren, letting potential burglars know there's an alarm system. Looked at the Bosch siren (zigbee), but it seems that the LED is only on when the siren goes off.
