Playing LoL Classic has realigned my perspective on ADC and its role in the game.

Discussion

In LoL Classic, it is abundantly clear that ADCs are actually just OP and practically unbalancable in the design space the game operates in. In a game where no champ can do more than two spell rotations without going OoM, the modified auto-attacker has the advantage in extended fights.

As fun as that can be for the power fantasy, I actually find myself preferring ADC on live as opposed to classic. Why?

  1. Although there is less burst, it is far more consistent. Playing lane agaisnt a Sion or Fiddlesticks support will give you actual AIDS. It is practically uncounterable. If you want to farm, hope you're prepared to eat a stun!

  2. It is 100000x times harder to lasthit. You can laugh at skill issue or whatever, but goddamn it is a nightmare sometimes. I've done the Karthus auto drills and managed 8cspm in modern, but even with max AD start, I'm lucky to get 6cspm in classic. Every auto feels like a Soraka banana and the minions keep killing each other. If the wave is stacked wrong, you just gotta accept that you're not getting some of that farm, even if uncontested.

  3. It is WAY too easy to perma-freeze. Honestly, this alone is why I am winning. It is just so many non-games of me not allowing my opponent to play. Sorry buddy, I took TP, so I'm never OOM and you're legally not allowed to farm.

TLDR; ADC is stronger, but it is a worse experience.
