Hello, I’m rather new to VFTs and have ended up with a friend’s sickly one. I’m just looking for a sit rep and a plan from here.

**Background**: I got these from a friend who had been improperly caring for it. It had gone weeks without water sitting on a shady bookshelf. In the pics you can see my large Miranda Pitcher Hybrid (tropical), so I said “oh yeah I can manage carnivores! I’ll take it!” (Wrong!).

**The issues**: It’s a Walmart plant so I have no clue on cultivation. It was given to me in regular dirt with issues mentioned above. So first thing I did was repot in 60/40 perlite - peat and sphagnum (white pot) I then aggressively watered it and set it in a window, but this led to root rot.
I cut the rot out, cleaned it with peroxide and water and was left with the 2 thirds. They were replanted in the same pot new mix, but didn’t anchor. They popped up out of the dirt (probably because I was too gentle setting them back in) so I made a new mix and planted them firmly. Since then, the twins have fared very differently. The healthy one, Twin 1, snapped on a large fly somehow and half digested it before the trap died (you can see it, it’s the closed half black one), and has come back with 5 new traps. Twin 2, well…

**Current set up**: They currently sit in my project room under a 36w Sansi Grow light. I’ve only ever watered it with distilled water, from the tray at the bottom. White plastic pot with drainage at the bottom. I fill the tray every time the top of the soil isn’t damp like a sponge. They were climatized to the room and light and now sit under the light for 10-12 hours a day. Ceiling fan stays on to keep air circulating, and it’s next door to a kitchen. I’m still not convinced this is the best but I’m afraid of overwatering again as well as a FOURTH repotting. The goal is this project room will eventually have the fish tank functioning as well as a carnivore shelf for display. (The Miranda is here because I’m in the process of hanging it).

**Bonus**: I’m also concerned about that little VFT in the brown plastic pot. I purchased this one when I was convinced both twins were dead as a replacement. I got this one from WestWoods Gardens as part of their petite collection. It came as such, in a pure sphagnum plug with those long leaves already browning. Since I’ve had it it’s grown those little red heads in the center, and I want to transition it more carefully to a proper set up, but am afraid of what happened to the .

Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. Like I said I’m aware they’re bad I just would like to know if it’s possible to turn it around. Thanks! I can take more pics as well.
