Position Recommended - Suspicious?
Need advice:
Throwaway account, fake names.
I work in home remodel customer service and have a few years of experience. I get the calls when a project goes sideways and manage resolution.
We have an installer, we’ll call him Brad. When I started the role, I was warned about him - rude, tacks on extra money, etc. I was also, somewhat, warned about an upper level manager - takes installer’s side and some possibly shady things. We’ll call her Marie. I did my best to draw my own conclusions about this over time. Now, I understand why people think the things they do.
Brad and I have had issues, but nothing too serious - refusing to respond to clarification requests, condescending, and so on but never in front of customers. Recently, he threw me, and the company, “under the bus” in front of a customer. I lost rapport with the customer and Brad later tried to take his comments back. After this, I filed a complaint with HR and management. They escalated the issue to upper management, including Marie. It was quickly decided that Brad would no longer work for our office, but would continue with other teams. I was surprised since other companies require multiple reports to consider a change like that.
Since then, he has told management that I’m not responding to inquiries, answering calls, and so on. Records are digital, so I can prove it’s not true. This has happened enough times that I notated it and reached out to management again. It was escalated to Marie, and others. Her response was focused on a customer order, not the behavior. In fact, she didn’t acknowledge the concern. I took issue with this and brought it to my managers for them to follow up on. They did. It’s not been long since this took place, not long at all.
Where I need advice:
Marie reached out to one of my managers regarding an open position outside the office that I’d be a fit for, based on my skills. She also noted that I’d work with different install teams at the other location. From what I can tell, the position is a lateral move with insignificant pay increase potential. It’s a smaller office, fewer staff and seemingly less room for growth, and I think it’s all men (I’m a woman). Seems similar to my current role. My position is difficult to fill, so if I left they may be stuck with a gap for a while. The recommendation seems odd to me. It potentially hurts my current office and doesn’t seem to offer me much. The timing also seems off. Are my concerns valid? Am I paranoid? Just wondering what others outside the situation think. Thanks!
