Roaches in raised vegetable garden. Solutions?

Question

Living in Florida with two raised garden beds. I started using pine needles straw as mulch for moisture retention this year. All my plants are responding well with the change. Used regular straw in the past with no bug problems. I’m having a roach issue since switching to the pine straw. Luckily my garden is taking a rest for August and September. What can I do to get rid of the bugs safely? What mulch is moisture retaining yet less attractive to the bug? I tried using InTice around the outside of the beds. Not sure if it’s helping or not. Thinking I should take the mulch out for now but don’t want my rich soil and worms to get destroyed by the elements. I realize the roaches like the moisture and the mulch but both are needed for gardening.
Ideas?
