I accidentally realized AI might make SaaS even bigger.

I think SaaS is going to become even bigger in the age of Claude and Codex. People think AI is going to replace SaaS, but I actually think it’s the opposite. Think about it. You ask Claude to build something and it does a pretty good job. Then ask it to bring you paying customers. Let’s say you ask it to find competitors, look at their latest LinkedIn posts, figure out the right people who engaged, qualify them, research them, personalize outreach, and reach out to 500 people. It might do one or two people, maybe, but suddenly it starts consuming all your credits, taking forever, and ends up costing more than hiring an intern.

The reasoning is incredible, the advice is incredible, but when it comes to actually implementing that advice, it just can’t do it reliably. That’s why I don’t think SaaS is dead. I think SaaS becomes much more important. The next generation of SaaS won’t just be software with dashboards, it’ll provide the actual state-changing capabilities. Whether that’s through MCP tools or API endpoints, SaaS will become the execution layer while Claude and Codex become the reasoning layer. While working on our MCP this became really obvious. The hard part wasn’t getting Claude to come up with an outbound strategy. The hard part was giving it reliable state-changing tools so it could actually follow its own advice.

Another thing I realized is that startups can’t realistically integrate every SaaS individually because real workflows span across multiple products. Creating that abstraction layer becomes extremely important. If you ask Claude to build all of those state-changing capabilities from scratch, it’ll probably spend the next four days building something unreliable that still won’t execute simple tasks consistently. I think the SaaS companies that win over the next few years will be the ones that expose really good state-changing agents through MCPs or APIs, because reasoning models are already good enough.
