What does it mean if I'm [F28] not turned on by thinking about my boyfriend [M41]?
I [F28] have been dating my boyfriend [M41] for nearly a year. He's a wonderful guy, we can talk for hours, our lifestyles are compatible and there's mutual respect and trust between us. I'm very happy in our relationship and I feel lucky to have him.
Something I'm trying to navigate though is how I experience attraction to him. When we originally matched, I thought he looked different than he did in person, (I wasn't catfished, i just assumed) once we met I realized he's not exactly the type i go for physically normally. We get along so well that I moved past this pretty easily.
My concern comes in because when I think of my boyfriend, I don't experience that visceral "I need you right now" kind of feeling. I do experience that type of attraction with other men who are closer to my type. He's also getting older and it shows on his body in some ways. There's also been some performance issues.
That said, when we're in person together, I can't keep my hands off of him. I LOVE kissing him, cuddling with him and just touching him in general. When we're close, it's very easy for me to be turned on by him. I've never felt turned off by him when we're intimate, and when we're together we're intimate pretty often. Just last week we were laying in bed together and I looked over at him in the morning light and thought about how handsome he is and how lucky I am.
Something else i should mention is my type in guys is a guy that I know if I'm being honest wouldn't align with the version of life I want for myself. My boyfriend matches what I'm looking for, and so I feel like it makes sense to sacrifice some level of attraction to go with the person who I'm more compatible with in the long term.
Tl;dr: My boyfriend is great, but I'm worried I'm not physically attracted enough to him despite enjoying intimacy with him.
What does it mean if someone is only turned on by their partner when they're in person with them?
