Visual wall schedule after 6 weeks with a toddler and kindergartner

12–18 Months

And somehow the most useful routine change in our house has been making the schedule visible at kid height. My 5 year old can read a little, my 2 year old obviously cannot, but pictures plus the same order every day have cut down a lot of the “but what are we doing after snack?” negotiations.

We put a 15 inch Apolosign smart wall calendar in the kitchen, basically a plugged-in family calendar screen that can also work like an Android tablet. It shows our Google Calendar, the school pickup time, swim day, library day, and a tiny chore/reward thing for my kindergartner. I still keep the toddler’s part very simple: breakfast, get dressed, outside, lunch, nap, pickup, dinner, bath.

The biggest win has been transitions. I’ll say “check the calendar” instead of explaining the whole morning again while holding a wet diaper and a cold coffee. My older kid likes moving through the day and seeing points for shoes/backpack/feeding the dog.

Placement matters though. It has to stay plugged in, so we had to rearrange one ugly cord situation near the counter. Also, if I overfill the calendar, the kids tune it out. Four or five kid-relevant items per day seems to be the sweet spot here.
