Adopting a dog that’s heartworm positive…am I in for a headache?

I recently lost my soul dog to cancer and I just feel the biggest void in my life. My house is too Quiet!!! I have lots of time and love to give . I fell in love with most beautiful husky shepherd mix that is heartworm positive. Of course the rescue will finish the treatment but from what I’m hearing there’s a strict isolation period that could last months where the dog can’t do anything that would cause its heart rate to rise….has anyone gone through this is it that strict ?
