How do I learn what gear is decent?

Sorry if this is stupid, but I don’t know how to tell the difference between decent amp or set of speakers etc and something that’s just rubbish. Plenty of people on here seem to be able to tell straight away. Is this just purely an experience thing? Or is there certain things to look for? Sorry if this is dumb I’m inexperienced. Thanks
