How is 441 between Gatlinburg and Cherokee?

My dad (73) and uncle (70) will be driving down that way next week. They are concerned about 441. I am assuming it is in good repair and fairly easy to navigate in a car. They are worried about it being a small narrow mountain road full of switchbacks. Any input is appreciated.
