Potential DOS system brick on 10th November 2026 due to date related integer overflow.
I'm not sure how many are still using or supporting DOS systems or architecture but I found out today that there's a chance the system could brick completely on 10th November 2026 due to a date related integer overflow.
It seems to be specifically systems that use January 1, 1980 as their baseline $0$.
Jan 1, 1980 + 17,114 = Nov 9, 2026 (highest positive integer before bit overflow
Jan 1, 1980 + 17,115 = Nov 10, 2026 (triggers signed bit flipping to negative).
For transparency, I'm not a developer and had to use Gemini to figure out what was going on with my customer's system and ended up finding this out by sending a screenshot of the .exe's hex code and related info, after getting an overflow 6 error trying to create orders after 9th November.
I know this is probably very bespoke but I hope this helps anyone that this might affect!
