Why do people say china "erased people" when their social media account gets banned?

Like I'd click on those headlines and videos and there isn't a single mention of a police report. Those social media platforms are private companies with their set of rules you have to abide to be in the plataform, they can kick you out if violate their rules, or get mass reported. That doesn't mean the government of China has to have something to do with it
