Approaching 2nd Cycle Confused
So I (41/f) recently had my first IVF cycle. Had a retrieval on 06/26 that resulted in 11 eggs retrieved. 6 were mature. All 6 fertilized successfully. 2 made it to blastocyst and were sent for testing (currently waiting on results of that). Considering the low outcome of the first cycle, it seems obvious to try another retrieval. I spoke to my clinic, and they are recommending that I do estrogen priming this upcoming cycle and wouldn’t start stims for retrieval until the next cycle. I’m obviously disappointed to “waste this time” given my age and just confused about the reasoning. The clinic hasn’t really been sharing much specific information with me along the way (to be fair I haven’t asked), but what information could I be requesting to maybe understand everything a bit more? Should I be looking at how many follicles I had and how their sizes progressed along the way? From my searches it seems they’re recommending the estrogen priming to encourage them to grow more evenly and result in more mature eggs at the next retrieval? Has anyone had similar experience? I’m also wondering if we go this route, what is the earliest we could possibly attempt a FET (assuming either of my current two embryos are viable and/or any the next round)?
