Help decide which instrument to trade Futures/LETFs/stocks
Hi, I’ve been trading with a small capital for 8 months. I started with stocks, short-term 1-3 days holding. Mean reversion based off RSIs and moving averages, and tried swing trading as well. Bear in mind I deposited a limited capital for this endeavor of $2,000. I made some 40% returns but absolute is just peanuts, ye?
I’d say I’m exploring things around.
I followed various traders like Qullamaggie and Jeff Sun, and primarily Linda Raschke, her smart streets book and lectures, naturally I wanted to try futures. Omg! One can make or break a couple of hundreds in a single day, in a single SWING (esp MNQ).
I think I was drunk by the power of leverage.
I swiped all of my little returns in no time.
I tried prop firm but I can’t help but feel so disconnected that it feels like a videogame and I make poor rules violating decisions,
I have two acct in NinjaTrader and TradeStation. For the last 2 weeks I’m about breakeven which is far better than losing money like before, and yet.. I am not sure whether I should continue trading futures with such a small account. It’s just that stocks don’t seem like much fun anymore, whereas this focus on a several markets is compelling and interesting (MES,MNQ,MGC,MCL,M2K)
I feel like I’m learning a lot, technical analysis stuff, but not sure this is right for me.
Some of the setups and entries inevitably involve taking a larger risk.
I tried some setups with supposedly low risk stops of 2-3 pts only to have them filled immediately- i.e death by a thousand cuts.
Some setups I cannot take because the logical stop would be too wide, causing me to risk way more, even using 1 micro MES contract.
I thought perhaps day trading the TQQQ would be better? Though commissions for each trade will be more expensive n stuff, I’d be able to take 1-2 intraday swing trades and be done with it. I’d be making or losing much less than I would with MES/MNQ.
My situation forces me to look for scalps only. In and out in minutes, this has the danger of over trading. However, last 2-3 days I managed to get a small profit of $40-60 from 1-2 trades and work on NOT taking anymore trades unless they’re really good, imo.
btw, I’m also open for trying to trade Europe hours because I’m based in Europe. Not sure whether lower volatility might actually be better for me hehe, although there are also random brutal spikes…
What would you do? Go back to trading stocks to accumulate capital?
I rather not deposit much now until I show consistency.
