Re eviction drive under Dakuria bridge
Firstly, posted with a non-politics flair, please don't make every post a fight over politics.
I am just sharing my first hand experience, I had written to KMC, though I'm.not sure they took my complaint. Still I do feel this is harsh on the families, they have been living under the bridge close to the stairs (from bridge down to road).
I go to Ravindra Sarovar lake for a morning walk / jog in early morning, I reach there by walk from selimpore walk up the Dakuria bridge, take down the 2nd stairs for a shorter route to the Lake (Gate no 1)
It is at the base of the stairs the families were living in.
The stairs landing was full of at least a bucketful of trash every morning. Food packets, plastics, bear bottles. Slum homes on both sides of the base of the stairs, the men walking in thin gamchhas, women in old loose nighties, gathering there for doing morning rituals like brushing, shower, giving me weird looks as if I entered their privacy zone or bedroom. Whereas the stair was part of public infra. You can see the stairs in the Yt video in the news.
Still I have sympathy for their condition. I only wrote to KMC about cleaning the trash from the stairs. Now it seems they are facing eviction. It's harsh, but the stairs had to be kept clean and accessible to pedestrians.
