Why are there different small plant species in the same place?

Same soil, same climate and weather, and same sun, no? Then what is it that allows biodiversity of same-sized plants like grass, small flowers, and weeds?

And I'd also like to know why the specific differences, for example why the specific niche that flowers and weeds have favour having petals, leaves, etc. rather than being like grass
