Did Anyone Else Feel Awkward Checking Into a New Unit?

Question

I only was with one unit during my time in, but I felt awkward doing the initial check-in with my battalion and the next month or two. Like I had to put on a cheerful face and tell everyone how excited I am to be with the unit even though I had heard bad things about it.

You also don't really know who's cool or not and you can tell people are trying to see how you are like too. A bunch of people were doing stuff when I got there and you are just completely out of the loop with things but they still somehow talk to you as you should have known what was going on months before you got to the unit. Had a Captain tell me how I should have known what was going on with an exercise that happened prior to me getting there.

Guys who really should have known that you don't know certain things talk to you like you should. Like when someone told me my first week to certify my platoon's CFT scores on MCTIMS. I'm like "I barely know what MCTIMS is" lol.

Took me some time to get computer access so couldn't really help out my platoon staff with tasks either.

I feel like you kinda had to put on this fake persona of how pumped you are to be there. I've found that to be somewhat similar in the civilian world too, but not as bad.
