New and Old Beacons
Hey everyone, just wanted to post here and say my 2M Beacon in Grid FM08ug on 144.2875 MHz is currently transmitting its voice prompt on a 24/7 basis. It primary purpose is ducting and sporadic E research. Secondarily, it can be used by POTA/SOTA folks for band openings etc and transmits SWPC Space Weather Reports twice daily. It covers a wide swath of Central Virginia and into the lower region of Northern Virginia. The Beacon transmits with a Collinear Array at 11M.
The 10M Beacon recently came back up and transmits on 28.2090 kHz on a 5 minute cycle in RTTY45 and is, as far as I've heard and found, the only 10M RTTY Beacon. Antenna points 50 degrees at New England in the States and roughly the East Coast of France. It also send the SWPC reports but with added forecasting as its being sent in RTTY. It transmits with a Moxon at 11M as well.
If anyone hears them, and can decode the RTTY beacon or her the sultry Zira on 2M, I'd love to know. The 2M Beacon has been heard as far as The Oranges in New Jersey and The Outer Banks in North Carolina this Sporadic e season. They both go to 100W PEP before end of the month. Happy hunting and reception reports will get a special Beacon QSL card.
Before anyone asks why RTTY or why 2M...because its FUN and also different. So many dits and dahs out there, might as well mix it up and use the emissions we're allowed.
